The Urgent Wake-Up Call for Today's Church
Jeremiah 51:39
In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the LORD.
It is very interesting to note the Lord’s strategy as it relates to bringing about the judgment of Babylon. His plan is to “make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake…”. The Lord in righteousness would judge the Babylonian empire, and one of the things He would do is cause them to be vulnerable to the attacks of their enemies. What better state of vulnerability could a nation be found, than in a state of drunkenness and sleep?
This is where I wish to draw application for the church; what better state of vulnerability could the church be found, than in a state of perpetual sleep? It is as if our enemy has learned a battle tactic from our Lord, and is using it against us. The church seems to be in a deep sleep from which she cannot be awakened. It is not that she cannot be awakened, but I question if it is her will to be awakened!
There is a battle cry in the streets of the nations of the world, and yet the church hits the snooze button one more time for a little more sleep! I believe the Lord is saying to His church even today what He said in Isaiah 52:1, “Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion…” Indeed it says in Romans 13:11, “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.”
God is sending us a wake-up call, the likes of which we have never seen before! Much is at stake for those who sleep through this one. Many have already lost more than they could possibly regain because of this dreaded sleep that has come over them; do not become a statistic yourself! Your children are at stake! Your home is at stake! Your freedom is at stake! Your health is at stake! Your testimony is at stake! Everything you hold dear and precious is at stake!
It is the devil’s intention to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. Awake, Awake! Pay attention, and give no place to the devil! Christ will come to your aid if you will wake up! He can counter-act every wicked device the devil forms against you! Christ came that you might have life, and that you might have it more abundantly! Set Him upon the seat of the throne of your heart today, and let Him do battle for you! Wake up, and be saved from the destruction that is sweeping across the land to those who sleep!
